چکیده
Cardiotoxic effects account for a large proportion of the mortality arising from drug overdose, and many drugs can cause cardiovascular manifestations, which include effects on heart rate and blood pressure, electrocardiographic (ECG) abnormalities and arrhythmias (Table 1). This article discusses the cardiovascular management of toxicity with angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors and angiotensin receptor blockers (ARBs), β blockers, calcium channel blockers, cardiac glycosides and tricyclic antidepressants.

Association of serum melatonin and albumin with cardiovascular disease
Cardiovascular diseases are a major cause of death worldwide. Endothelial dysfunction, inflammatory conditions, and oxidative stress at the forefront of the onset and progression of most cardiovascular diseases specificaly coronary heart disease and heart failure. Melatonin is a type of indole neuroendocrine hormone. It was first found that the regulation of the sleep-wake cycle is regulated...
متن کاملA bench to bedside view of uremic toxins.
Reviewing the current picture of uremic toxicity reveals its complexity. Focusing on cardiovascular damage as a model of uremic effects resulting in substantial morbidity and mortality, most molecules with potential to affect the function of a variety of cell types within the vascular system are difficult to remove by dialysis. Examples are the larger middle molecular weight molecules and prote...
متن کاملCardiovascular burden associated with uremic toxins in patients with chronic kidney disease.
BACKGROUND Retention of uremic toxins in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) negatively affects multiple organ systems, including the cardiovascular system, resulting in significant morbidity and mortality. Alleviation of the adverse effects of uremic toxins is an important priority in the management of CKD. SCOPE This review focuses on the evidence for the influence of uremic toxins o...
متن کاملInsights into role of microRNAs in cardiac development, cardiac diseases, and developing novel therapies
Objective(s): MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are a subfamily of small noncoding RNAs that play a variety of roles in regulating gene expression in nearly all organisms. They affect different biological pathways by post-transcriptionally regulating mRNAs. Aside from miRNAs’ role in maintaining cellular homeostasis, their perturbation is related to several pathologic states and dis...
متن کاملUremic Toxins - Novel Arrhythmogenic Factor in Chronic Kidney Disease - Related Atrial Fibrillation.
Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common cardiac arrhythmia. Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is associated with a high prevalence of AF, and uremic toxins are an important risk factor for cardiovascular diseases associated with CKD. Uremic toxins can produce pro-fibrotic, pro-hypertrophic, and pro-inflammatory effects on cardiac tissues and enhance oxidative stress or neurohormonal phenomena of...
